Epic Powder Machinery recently completed a installation in Zhejiang, China, providing a custom-engineered Jet Değirmeni system designed specifically for the rigorous standards of toner production.
Project Context & Challenges
Toner is a composite material usually consisting of styrene-acrylic copolymer, magnetite, and various additives. The primary challenge in grinding toner is its low melting point. Traditional mechanical grinding generates friction heat that can melt the resin, leading to equipment clogging and degraded print quality.
For this Zhejiang-based project, the client required a precise top-cut to eliminate large particles that cause streaking in high-resolution printing.
Engineering Excellence: The Epic Solution
To meet the D99 requirement of 14.2μm at a high throughput of 200kg/h, Epic Powder Machinery deployed its signature Akışkan Yataklı Jet Değirmeni with several toner-specific enhancements:
- Low-Temperature Operation: The adiabatic expansion of compressed air acts as a refrigerant, ensuring the toner remains well below its softening point throughout the grinding process.

- Anti-Static & Anti-Explosion Design: Given the organic nature of toner, the system includes specialized grounding and explosion-proof features to ensure 24/7 operational safety.
- Narrow Particle Size Distribution (PSD): By minimizing the “fines” and “oversize” fractions, the system produces a toner that delivers consistent density and high transfer efficiency in laser printers.
Results and Impact
The Zhejiang facility has reported a significant increase in “First Pass Yield” since the commissioning of the Epic Jet Mill. By achieving a stable 200kg/h output with a D99 of 14.2μm, the client has reduced waste and lowered their energy consumption per ton of finished product.
