Tourmaline Ultrafine Grinding Technology and Research Progress

When the tourmaline mineral material is applied in powder form, the particle size of tourmaline is required to be less than 3μm in most cases. Tourmaline ultrafine grinding is the basis for the application of tourmaline mineral materials. After beneficiation and purification of tourmaline minerals, after crushing, grinding, screening and other processes, tourmaline powder with different particle size specifications can be obtained.

At present, according to the different particle sizes of the developed tourmaline powder, it can be divided into ordinary tourmaline powder, ultrafine tourmaline powder and nano tourmaline powder. The common specifications of tourmaline powder mainly include 100 mesh, 325 mesh, 800 mesh, 1250 mesh, 3000 mesh, 6000 mesh, and the finest can reach nanometer level.

Wang Xueqin et al. used a stirring mill to superfine tourmaline from Xinjiang Altay, and used ethanol and sodium polyacrylate as dispersants to prepare tourmaline powder with particle sizes of d97 < 3.0 μm, d90 < 1.8 μm, and d50 < 0.5 μm. Zheng Shuilin et al. used wet stirring mill to superfine tourmaline in Hanzhong, Shaanxi, and obtained ultrafine tourmaline powder with d50≤0.8μm and d97≤3.0μm by rational use of dispersant and grinding medium.
